OUR JOURNEY
In 1848 a ship called the 'Slains Castle' left Scotland bound for newly colonised Aotearoa, New Zealand at the bottom of the Pacific Ocean. Onboard was James Auchinleck Cheyne II. It landed in Port Chalmers, Dunedin.

Eliza and James
James and Eliza married in Dunedin in 1855. They had 8 children. "James Auchinleck Cheyne died 8 January 1882 at Regent Road, Cosey Dell, Dunedin, Otago, New Zealand.
His Obituary from the Otago Witness, 14 January 1882, reads 'On the 8th January, at his residence, Cosy Dell, Regent Road, Dunedin, James Auchinleck Cheyne, only son of the late J. A. Cheyne, W.S., of Lismore, Argyllshire, Scotland; aged 51 years. He was an accountant and had been in New Zealand for 30 years. James and Eliza were Win's Great-grandparents.
